The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is an Australian government statutory authority within the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy (Australia) (DBCDE) portfolio. The ACMA is tasked with ensuring most elements of Australia’s media and communications legislation, related regulations, and numerous derived standards and codes of practice operate effectively and efficiently, and in the public interest.

Industry Number Management Services (INMS)
INMS is a not-for-profit company which allocates short-digit Premium Rate (191-199) numbers and 13/1300/1800 numbers on behalf of the Australian Communications and Media Authority to registered Carriage Service Providers (CSPs). The INMS system also facilitates the portability of 13/1300/1800 telephone services and the movement of Premium Rate (191-199) numbers.

Smartnumbers Auction
INMS has a pool of 13/1300/1800 numbers it can allocate to CSPs. The majority of 13/1300/1800 numbers are now allocated via the Smartnumbers auction which is run by the ACMA.
